4ps offers comprehensive procurement support to local authorities, including hands-on project support, Gateway Reviews, skills development and “know-how” procurement guidance in the form of procurement packs, case studies and extranets.

Central Buying Consortium

Largest local authority purchasing consortium in the UK with 17 members. The purpose of the Consortium is to improve the effectiveness, by co-ordination, of local authority purchasing with the object of effecting savings in public expenditure for the benefit of its members.

Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply

CIPS is an international organisation, based in the UK, serving the purchasing and supply profession. Dedicated to promoting best practice, CIPS provides a wide range of services for the benefit of members and the wider business community.

CIPS provides a programme of continuous improvement in professional standards and raises awareness of the contribution that purchasing and supply makes to corporate, national and international prosperity. In 1992, CIPS was awarded a Royal Charter in recognition of its leading role.

Constructing Excellence

Constructing Excellence aims to achieve a step change in construction productivity by tackling the market failures in the sector and selling the business case for continuous improvement. Through focused programmes in Innovation, Best Practice Knowledge, Productivity and Engagement, Constructing Excellence has developed a strategy to deliver the process, product and cultural changes that are needed to drive major productivity improvements in the sector.

Department for Communities and Local Government

The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) was created on 5 May 2006 with a powerful remit to promote community cohesion and equality, as well as responsibility for housing, urban regeneration, planning and local government.

Directgov brings together the widest range of public service information and services online.

Produced by the Central Office of Information, Directgov provides information from across UK Government departments on topics ranging from travel safety and parental leave to special educational needs and local NHS services.

Gershon Review

This document sets out the conclusions of Sir Peter Gershon's review of public sector efficiency. In particular, it sets out the scope for further efficiencies that he has identified within the public sector's back office, procurement, transaction service and policy-making functions.

Improvement and development agency (IDeA)

National Audit Office

The national audit offce scrutinises public spending on behalf of parliament.

Office of Government Commerce

The Office of Government Commerce works with government to improve procurement and project/programme management. OGC also work with suppliers to make the government marketplace more efficient and attractive to business.

OGC Efficiency Guidance

TheOffice of Government Commerce supports, co-ordinates and monitors the public sector in delivering the Government's target of achieving £21.5 billion efficiency gains a year by 2007-08.

OGC Procurement Guidance

The Office of Government Commerce develops supplier relations by encouraging small and medium-sized companies to work more closely with the public sector, as well as by establishing partnerships with major suppliers. This gives further information.

Society of Procurement Officers

The Society of Procurement Officers in Local Government (SOPO) engages in a range of activities to promote its strategic purchasing, contracting and supplies functions.

Sustainable Procurement Information Network (SPIN)

The Sustainable Procurement Information Network (SPIN) has been developed by the East Midlands Centre of Excellence as a support tool for local authorities and provides up-to-date information on all aspects of sustainable procurement as relevant to local authorities. SPIN will make it easier to find sustainable procurement information and should be the first port of call for LA's nationwide.

Waste Information Network

The Regional Centre of Excellence Waste Information Network (WIN) has been developed as a support tool for local authorities and provides up-to-date information on all aspects of waste management relevant to local authorities. WIN will make it easier to find waste information by signposting users to the relevant place and should be the first port of call for local authority waste officers for any waste management issue.

LocalBusinessEnterprise was formed to offer a unique reference point on expert advice on creating a thriving local business community. Expert advice on how local businesses can work together to attract & retain customers, tackle social issues and improve the local environment.
