Delivered by Vanguard, this 3 day course is targeted at councils which are about to launch, or are in the midst of, projects and programmes re-designing services around customer needs, improving efficiency, effectiveness and accessibility. Because of the practical nature of this course, it is only available as an on-site course and will be tailored to meet the requirements of such projects and programmes.
What is it?
The programme is designed to run over three consecutive days and combines theory as well as fieldwork and typically follows the outline below:
Day One: Challenging fundamental ideas about the way we design and manage work and establishing 'lean' principles as a better way of working.
Day Two: Applying systems principles to an organisation. Seeing things that were previously invisible through fieldwork in the operational areas. Refer to Appendix for more details on the fieldwork.
Day Three: Feedback of learning and understanding of the opportunities for improvement and the implication of achieving them through moving to a Systems design.
What are the learning outcomes?
As a result of attending this workshop delegates will understand:
- The difference between Command and Control and Systems Thinking and that this approach to transformation is a "thinking change" and not a set of tools.
- The importance of gaining knowledge and understanding through “Check” before making any changes.
- The hands-on process of conducting high level “Check” in an operational area.
- The importance and implication for the design of the work, those who do the work and those who manage the work in moving to a Systems Thinking redesign.
- The extent to which a Systems approach has far-reaching strategic implications for the organisation.
- That leaders must understand Systems Thinking principles and be demonstrably involved in the change for successful transformation.
