On-site venues

We also offer this course as a council specific, on-site business transformation skills courses. The costs, structure, numbers and format of the on-site courses (e.g. numbers limited to 12-15 per day) will mirror the public courses, with the key difference that wherever possible the on-site courses will be tailored to meet the requirements of the council-specific project.

There is a need for a fair and transparent prioritisation mechanism in anticipation of large demand – see our on-site section for further details on prioritisation details and how to apply

What is it?

Lean systems thinking is a new way of designing and managing work by managing the organisation as a process rather than a top-down hierarchy.

It gives you more control, lower costs and better service by putting the customer first and in line with customer demand.

The results are higher customer and stakeholder satisfaction, less waste, more capacity, lower costs and more scope for growth.

Who should attend?

Anyone currently or potentially charged with the re-design of services around customer needs, improving efficiency, effectiveness and accessibility

What are the learning outcomes?

Vanguard Delivery;

As a result of attending this workshop delegates will understand:

  • This approach to transformation is a "thinking change" and not a set of tools.
  • It is vital to start with “Check” – the process for gaining knowledge and understanding before making any changes.
  • The application of “Check” to various public sector systems and what it uncovers.
  • The challenge for service organisational transformation is to design to absorb the variety of demand entering it and thus deliver better service at lower cost.
  • The criticality of relating measures to the purpose of the system and how measures are central to performance improvement.
  • The role of management changes in a Systems Thinking organisation to one that “acts on the system”.

Grant Thornton Delivery:

The course will give attendees:

  • Grounding in the application of Lean Systems Thinking in a local authority context.
  • Real life examples of Lean Systems Thinking in action cases that delegates can take back into their organisations and use to shape transformation activity.
  • It will also form a useful primer for deeper practitioner learning.

Please see attachement below to find out more about the Grant Thornton approach to Lean systens thinking.

What is the cost?

The course is extensively subsidised and further reduced in 2008 to £70 per delegate inclusive of all course materials.

Lunch and refreshments are included in the delegate price for our public venues.

Councils will need to provide venue, lunches and refreshments for delegates and trainer(s) for on-site courses.
