Update on 'Modern Councillor' e-learning portal
Earlier this year, the LIFT SW Partnership purchased 2 year’s membership of the Learning Pool’s new Modern Councillor e-learning portal http://www.moderncouncillor.com/. Each authority in the south west has signed up to e-learning as a way for members - new or otherwise - to benefit from learning at their own pace, in their own time, selecting short interactive and engaging modules that are of interest to them. For the next 2 years elected members have FREE access to this e-learning resource!
Available modules include: Your role as a Councillor, Introduction to Local Government, Overview of the Code of Conduct, Partnership working, IT in Local Government, Working with the Media, Community Leadership, Overview & Scrutiny, Public Speaking, Licensing & Regulation, Chairing meetings
Further modules on negotiating & influencing, risk management, financial skills and using mobile technology are expected before the end of February 2008.

APM Introductory Certificate - dates for 2008
Reflecting the growing importance of project management in the workplace LIFT SW has arranged an Association of Project Management's Introductory certificate course to be held on the following dates:
- Monday 17th - Wednesday 19th March 2008 - Burraton House Conference Centre, Dorchester
- Tuesday 15th - Thursday 17th April 2008 - Somerset College of Arts and Technology, Taunton
The course is held over two and a half days and each place is 60% funded by the SWCoE - making the cost only £215 per local government officer (inclusive of examination entry).
