Sexual orientation is a matter for all of us, but is often only associated with lesbian gay or bisexual people.This workshop looks at how to promote best practice in service delivery and employment.

What the Sexual Orientation Workshop offers delegates:

  • Knowledge of what best practice looks like when working with issues around sexual orientation in line with current legislation
  • An understanding of how to best promote inclusive practice when working with members of the 'L, G & B community' both in and out of the workplace
  • A networking event & opportunity to share best practice with individuals working with these issues in similar organisations.

A summary of what the day will cover:

  • Societal attitudes to sexual orientation past & present
  • The impact of heterocentrism on individuals & organisations
  • How to support gay & bisexual colleagues effectively & appropriately
  • Legislation regarding sexual orientation & how this affects the activities of local authorities
  • Scenarios - identifying what best practice looks like & planning a way forward
