This ceremony will celebrate Charter achievement and individual councillor achievement.
This event is intended for Chief Executives, Leaders, Elected Members, Democratic Service Managers and anyone responsible for Member development.
The Communities in control: real people, real power White Paper emphasises the need to generate a vibrant local democracy and the development of a wider pool of active citizens involved in local decisions. The White Paper refers to a variety of new ways for making it easier to stand for office and also recognises the need to provide appropriate development, support and access to accredited qualification programmes that recognise the Members’ role and duties.
This event explores some of the key initiatives available to meet this goal and also provides an opportunity to congratulate organisations and individuals who have been successful in this area.
Objectives
To explore the White Paper reforms and content regarding empowerment
To explore incentives and challenges, particularly in accessing accrediting Member development programmes
To participate in discussions regarding Member Champions and the Member Development Charter
To recognise and celebrate organisational commitment to Member Development
