The new Use of Resources assessment of authorities by the Audit Commission introduces a fresh approach to how the external auditors will make ‘rounded’ judgements against the key lines of enquiry.
The workshop will illustrate this approach applied to the key line of enquiry for asset management:
The COPROP SW and SW RIEP Asset Management Programme has arranged a workshop with Bob Baber of the Audit Commission.
The workshop aims are to:
• prepare delegates for the new approach external auditors will be taking to making ‘rounded’ top down judgements under the new Use of Resources assessment
• help delegates to recognise practice in their organisations as evidence for the key line of enquiry
• provide opportunities for delegates to share learning across organisations
• examine and consider how well-prepared your authority will be
• discuss how SW RIEP can support you on your path to improving performance
Delegates will work in small groups on case study evidence for a fictional authority. They will make a ‘rounded judgement’ against the key line of enquiry for asset management, and then discuss their assessment in an open forum.
SW RIEP intends to use the workshop to inform and develop its programme of support to local authorities across the region, in particular its ambitions, under the Asset Management programme, to:
• “improve Asset Management contributions to CAA/LAA priorities and corporate objectives”
• “develop common Asset Management standards and policies, including shared approaches to information and performance management”
This is not an event exclusively for Asset Managers – we also welcome attendees representing local authority corporate or service interests, particularly those charged with CAA / LAA responsibilities and interested in asset management implications.
The workshop will be at held at Taunton (Wellsprings Leisure Centre) on 22 April. This will be a half-day workshop, starting at 0930. There is no charge for attendance.
